The 1CH is ideal if you want the best possible 4K front camera at a lower entry price, with the option to add rear and interior cameras later. The front unit is identical in both — same 4K IMX678 sensor, 5GHz Wi-Fi, GPS, voice control, and CPL filter. If you know you want rear coverage from day one, the 2CH bundle saves money versus buying the rear camera separately later.
Can I add a rear camera to the A229 Pro 1CH?
Yes. You can add the standard rear camera, the RTC300 telephoto camera, or the RWC200 waterproof rear camera at any time. Simply connect the additional camera to the front unit — it is detected automatically with no firmware changes required.
Is the A229 Pro 1CH the same sensor as the Wirecutter-recommended model?
Yes. The A229 Pro 1CH uses the exact same Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 front sensor as the A229 Pro 2CH that Wirecutter named 'The Best Dash Cam.' You get identical 4K image quality, HDR processing, and low-light performance.
Does the 1CH model support 30fps at 4K?
Yes. The A229 Pro 1CH records at 4K 30fps with HDR enabled. As a single-channel system, the processor is fully dedicated to the front camera, ensuring smooth, consistent performance.
What storage do I need for a front-only setup?
A 128GB microSD card provides approximately 8-10 hours of continuous 4K single-channel recording before loop overwriting begins. A 256GB card doubles this to roughly 16-20 hours. For most daily commuters, 128-256GB is sufficient. The A229 Pro supports cards up to 512GB. No card is included — purchase a high-endurance card separately.
Is the CPL filter included with the 1CH model?
Yes. All A229 Pro models (1CH, 2CH, 3CH) include a press-on CPL filter for the front camera in the box. The CPL reduces dashboard reflections and windshield glare for cleaner footage.
