VIOFO Front + Telephoto Dash Cams

Pair a 4K wide-angle front camera with a dedicated 2K telephoto camera featuring true 4× optical zoom. While the front camera captures the full road scene at 140°, the telephoto camera focuses on a narrow 35° field of view — magnifying distant license plates with optical precision that digital zoom cannot match. Both cameras record simultaneously, giving you full-scene context and zoomed plate detail in one system.

Two Systems, One Mission

The A329T is VIOFO's flagship telephoto system — pairing a 4K 60fps front camera with a 2K telephoto, plus Wi-Fi 6 and SSD storage up to 4TB. The A229 Pro Tele delivers the same front + telephoto capability on the proven, Wirecutter-recommended A229 Pro platform at a more accessible price. Both are expandable to 3-channel configurations by adding a rear or interior camera.

Readable Plates at 20+ Meters

VIOFO's telephoto cameras use real optical glass elements — not software cropping — to physically magnify the image before it reaches the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor. The result: clean, high-resolution 2K footage of license plates from over 20 meters away, even on moving vehicles. Critical for hit-and-run evidence, aggressive driver documentation, and insurance claims where plate identification determines the outcome.

Front & Telephoto Dashcam FAQs

What is the difference between optical zoom and digital zoom on a dash cam?
Digital zoom simply crops and enlarges existing pixels, producing a blurry result. Optical zoom uses glass lens elements to physically magnify the image before it reaches the sensor, preserving full resolution and detail. VIOFO's 4× optical telephoto cameras maintain sharp 2K quality at distances where digital zoom would be unreadable.
Does the telephoto camera record continuously or only on events?
The telephoto camera records continuously alongside the front camera, just like a standard rear channel in a dual dash cam. Both streams loop-record simultaneously, so telephoto footage is always available — not just when an impact triggers the G-sensor.
Should I choose the A329T or the A229 Pro Tele?
Choose the A329T for maximum performance — 4K at 60fps front recording, Wi-Fi 6, USB 3.0, and SSD storage up to 4TB. Choose the A229 Pro Tele for proven value on the Wirecutter-recommended platform with 4K 30fps front and 2K telephoto at a lower price point. Both use the same telephoto camera module with Sony STARVIS 2 sensors.
Can I add a rear or interior camera to a front + telephoto system?
Yes. Both the A329T and A229 Pro Tele support 3-channel configurations. Add a standard rear camera, a waterproof rear camera, or an infrared interior camera to expand your system without replacing existing hardware.
