Why Do You Need a Waterproof Rear Camera

If you frequently find yourself on the road, you probably know how important it is to have a reliable dash cam. However, we often receive questions from our customers who face challenges while installing their rear cameras, such as not having a windshield on the rear of their pickup truck or having a windshield that is covered with heat-insulating film that affects the light. There is no doubt that choosing a waterproof rear camera is especially crucial for adventurers and outdoor-loving enthusiasts who want to capture their journeys and protect their gear.

In this article, we will delve into one of VIOFO's new-release waterproof rear cameras, RWC100, and explore its ability to handle any weather condition.

Key Features

Full HD Resolution

The most important aspect of any dash cam is the video quality. The RWC100 is equipped with a Sony STARVIS image sensor that shoots high-quality videos day and night in Full HD resolution at 30 frames per second. Even in low light conditions, the camera captures clear footage, safeguarding the way you leave behind.

IP67 Waterproof

IP67 is an abbreviation for Ingress Protection. It is a rating system used to indicate the level of protection a device has against solid objects and liquids.

The rear camera RWC100 has passed the IP67 waterproof test, which means it has the highest level of protection against solid ingress (indicated by the first digit 6), making it dust-proof. The camera's dust-proof protection is unparalleled and certified by IP67. You can use it without worrying about dust affecting its performance.

The second digit in the IP67 rating (7) indicates the camera's high-level water-ingress protection. With IP67-rated enclosures, the camera can withstand water hose and jet sprays and can sustain momentary water immersion in depths of 150mm to 1000mm for up to 30 minutes. This means you can place the camera outside of the car without worrying about heavy rain or snow.

HDR Capability

The RWC100 includes SONY STARVIS and advanced HDR multi-exposure technology. This combination captures maximum image detail in high-contrast scenes.

It adjusts exposure levels for subjects that appear too dark or too bright, ensuring clear capture of license plates, ensuring clear capture of license plates, even when cars behind have their headlights on full beams.

Installation

Installation Versatility

RWC100 is a camera system that is designed for pickup trucks, minivans, SUVs, and sedans, although it is not limited to these types of vehicles.

You can choose to mount the camera either inside on the rear windshield or outside above the license plate. This setup is especially useful for trucks and vans.

How to install

Step 1: Plug the rear camera cable into the front camera (main unit).

Step 2: Wire the rear camera cable as shown below and position the camera outside the rear of the vehicle.

Step 3: Secure the camera using a 3M adhesive sticker or screws provided.

Positioning the camera outside requires professional wiring, we’d advise you to go to a relevant store and have a professional installation to avoid danger or damage.

Compatible Model

Please note that RWC100 waterproof rear camera is only compatible with A129 Plus Duo and is not suitable for A129 Duo or A129 Pro Duo. However more waterproof rear cameras will be available soon to match our latest models, A229 Pro and A229 Plus series.
